Chaps in my LBS over the road had a bike in for service this week....had them that Hammerschmidt cranks fitted. They're pretty impressive arn't they?

I like the idea , but there is a lot of drag and there is a constant ratcheting , so it always ticks away and there is extra wear . Add the weight , massive Q factor and having to modify the frame to fit one I'll say no thanks .
Another thing that at first I think wow that's just what I need but after a little thought I'll just stick with the one ratio drivetrain

Q factor?? Flat pedals on rough terrain will change that, yes it makes a noise in the big ring position but drag ? Not sure.
Pluses : instant shifting, no lost chain. Great on rolling tracks it's like an instant 2 speed.
Minus : heavy and it cost heaps (got it when just released) now just buy a used one

We'll all have to wait untill these guys have a finished and available product (heard they work for Porsche and have this as a side project)
