Hack Commute Pub bike

Hey mullinino, how's tricks? was gonna use the kona, but love its skinny looks too much- but may have found a donor in the form of a C*****a, with drum brakes and nexus 8 gearing. A bit like Cindy Crawford's mole- wrong but in the right place! It's heavy as f**K, looks crap, rides well, and lacks any good or recognisable boutique parts to be stolen! One question though, where ja get the mudguards? Need a set to finish this thing off, then pics will be up for ridicule/ perverse appreciation. Lavery's bar is calling!

....sounds good man-got the guards from parkers of bolton, look for them on ebay-a wee while ago now so prob not on sale any more....Laverys is always calling, that i noticed!

good luck,p.

The trouble with these is that they're all too nice; too much theif appeal. For a bike you can leave locked up for a while, you want something that doesn't look like it's worth anything. I keep my "shopping" bike, a 90s? Claud Buttler, in good working order, but I removed the decals, they were pealing off anyway, and deliberately leave it dirty. Plus it all looks a bit "fugly" with mudguards, rack and chainguard.

When I do have to leave it locked up I use a massive ABUS U-lock with a 16mm thick shackle, one that I had for a motorcycle a few years back, together with a separate cable lock that goes through both wheels and the frame.

Some depressing viewing:

Those videos sure make shocking viewing :(

I use ever my nice 'classic' roadbike for country treks its either in my house or underneath my legs :D , if i go anywhere where else i take the £8 tip find.

I posted my '95 Rockhopper over in the members' bikes forum. 21" c-c seat tube, Origin-8 Space bars (copy of On-One Mary bars), etc. I'm 5'11" and I think you're right on with the sizing, especially if considering any sort of swept-back bars.

I have a 'Mary' bar to go on my Macleans when I eventually get around to building it, and the pic of your bike is all the justification I needed to convince myself that mounting it upside down is the right thing to do...

I really like that Specialized Rockhopper, normaly mudguards are are for purely practical reasons and rarely do anything for the looks of the bike, but those fat tyres and close fitting mudguards look great.
