there were no bad jokes in that thread

You see, that's where we all have different views. There were the usual stinkers from the usual suspects in the same way we get the same old same old in other conversations.

Time to move on and stop looking for answers you won't get or if you do, you probably won't like.

I guess the 'rules' regarding this section of the forum needs updating stating that current affairs are not to be discussed.

well i suppose it comes under rule 3 ;)

i would have left it a bit longer but i think the next page would have probably gone off the boil. i know it may seem harsh but call it being pro-active.

however there are other sites to visit if people want to discuss politics:-

https://www.conservatives.com

http://www.labour.org.uk/index.php/home/splash

there's also this place and it has rules too:-

https://www.theidiotboard.com/threads/i ... nt.254416/

and their rules are possibly better than ours

The mods need to be honest and clear...if all forms of political discussions are now banned, say so and put it in the rules section. I really don't care that my thread was locked but moving forward, if the current mods have decided that politics, current affairs or religious threads are banned, put it up there. I can appreciate modding is a thankless task but a little clarity would be nice.

he felt it was gonna go pear shaped so stopped it before it started.

This pretty much. Those threads tend to go wrong almost 100% of the time.

Just ban the remaining site users, that should make modding far less onerous. They're bound to have been just about to think something unacceptably topical anyway...

Re:

For me its not the subject matter thats the problem its the small number of regular contributors who f*ck it up with their argumentative chest beating. G&OTC used to be a place I'd go to have a little light relief from bike related stuff and not the play ground antics I see these days.

Can I say, when I asked for clarity, it was more in surprise the other thread had been locked not because the thread had been launched but more a number of us took the point and tried quite hard to make it humerous rather than naughty and at 3 pages I thought we had succeeded in that. Not a beef but more we changed and still it got locked.

I think the next step, especially if the jonnyboy baiting topics keep appearing is to just delete the off topic section in its entirety. It's nothing to do with bicycles and some of it's recent contents put off the majority of regular retrobike members from contributing but it sure as hell doesn't entice new members to join in. I personally think that with the sort of bullshit being posted lately that we are more than likely missing out on members.
I have not been in here for a while and came in to see what all the fuss was about after discussing things with other mods, and what I found is pretty rubbish. The main shit stirrers know who they are, and that is a term that is deserved after some of the weekends posts. You should go back and read some of these locked threads as though you were a new member and didn't know each other or each others history and you will see what I mean. Better still get one of your over 16 year old children to read it while your not in the room and then to give you their opinion.
After seeing that around 80 percent at a rough guess of threads on the first page are locked, I would just lock the whole section for a while.

good idea, we'll see if we can add that as a rule.
