gt zaskar- best build ever!

but the point surely is that retrobike, ripoffbike, or ripofbike as you put it, is primarily not a place to sell and buy things. it has a wealth of knowledge to offer where you can look at fellow riders builds and show your own. you can join in on events and make new friends with a common interest. the fs section is just a tiny little part of this site and people seem to forget this. there are still some good bargains to be had here and not everyone is out to make a premium.

p.s. i didnt see you moaning about 'ripofbike' when you were getting help off fellow members regarding you pace pro-class fork.....

Your still missing the point...i have recieved and taken plenty of advice...
Its the lets all comment on the daft ebay auctions, us retrobike experts, on the highly priced items, when the same thing goes on here, but rules state no comments on stupid prices because as its a retro site its ok to sell at whatever inflated price you want.
All i was stating is, if i had put my bike for sale on here...i would not be slated for putting any price i wanted on it....you and yours my friend are brand snobs, thats my last comment, i have a life, i sold my GT ZASKAR 1994 On ebay for £850, yes you read it correctly....
Feck me i should have split it up and put it all on retrobike...i would have made a killing.

But for me that is not the point....
Have a nice evening you N.J's

I've been stung a couple of times now on retrobike buying items than are shittier than the description and pics suggest, also tend to pay much more on here for the 'pleasure' too.

Ebay on the other hand is where some serious bargains can be found, especially if you make offers. At least the bike on this thread looks nice and tidy rather than the usual overpriced retrobike shite.

If you have had bad buying experiences on here then you should leave appropriate feedback so others know. Also, if you pay the paypal fees, you are covered if it turns out worse than advertised.

As for pricing, if you think retrobike is overpriced then dont buy from here. No need to run the site down for it.

Just to chip in my two-cents worth, I've had experiences of good and bad sales on both Retrobike and ebay - I think that much is apparent to everyone who uses both sites.

I think it's pretty obvious the benefits of both sites and we're neither daft or naive enough to get carried away with expecting too much from either. RB is good because it's a dedicated site for enthusiasts - sometimes that affords a premium but often, sellers are reasonable beasts and privy to barter. Ebay can hide gems and offer great bargains but most times the price ain't fixed and bidding can get a whole lot stupid. That said there is still an element of salt to be pinched in both cases - I hate Zaskars but then I do have the disease of Kona love - what can you do?

I think this sale shows a 'best case scenario', as ebay fees were avoided, the chap collected and more money was got for the bike - win, I'd say, and with minimum effort. Personally I wouldn't have paid half that for the bike because it had no balls whatsoever and absolutely no soul - again my opinion and unlike ebay I can express it freely here :D.

It's not a matter of taste or 'money' but a matter of aesthetic and craft - that is why RB'ing is so popular because half of us couldn't afford these bits the first time round and now have a chance to own a little piece of RB history - my first build has taken a year and I only have half the parts still...

In short, well done for the sale and generating an interesting, albeit slightly goading, thread.

Donnie
