GT tempest 98, build options and advice required

Old School Hero
Recently purchased this frame inc post and headset off e bay for £30 inc postage. I was going to build it up with the group set i'm currently running on my 92 diamondback ascent, just for a bit of a project cos i really like the look of the late 90's GTs but once it arrived and i got it mocked up with a stem and bars and wheels it feels really light so I'm wondering if i should take my time and spec it quite well? is it worth doing and can these frames take cantilever brakes? there seems to be no cable hanger at the rear or space for one so i'm assuming its v's only?

Re:

You can run canti brakes, but would need the GT cable routing gizmo that fits on the seat tube to do that (or an equivalent). Good luck with your build, sounds like you have already decided you need a higher spec :)

Re:

I bet they're easy to find, would any clamp on cable stop work?
I'm really not sure what to do with this, think I'm going to get it powder coated, then I'm in two minds whether to build up with what I've got on the other bike to get it going or take my time and build it up well.....

I can't remember the seatstay bridge detail on these - you could fit a Pace rocker thingy there which saves using frame stops etc.

Re:

Bought some cheap v brakes to put on it for a fiver off shpock with a kronos seatpost. from the spares bin I have a single speed conversion kit that got bought and never used and a tiagra crankset, also a cheap tin of copper hammerite off shpock, just need a bottom bracket and some pedals, the high spec would have taken too long so its all out ghetto for this just need to remove the existing bottom bracket and probably get the shell chased and faced,

The bottom bracket is in tight though

this is the plastic side of the bottom bracket
