GT STS DH build

Hi folks, I bought an STS DH frame off a member on here a while ago and have been building it up and messing about with it for the past few weeks.

I always wanted an LTS 1 when I was about 14 and into mountain biking.

I then lost interest and got more into fiddling with cars, going out etc.

Anyway then I thought could maybe get an LTS but saw this instead and bought it.

Here was the frame I bought.

I then stripped off some bits I was going to use from my old Trek 930 which I bought in 97/98 and changed bits and bobs on.

I knew some of my old parts were decent so planned to use those but bought a XT chainset and BB, some new shifters as I was going to be lazy, chain, XTR front mech as my old XT one was top pull and I needed the opposite.

I then started the build, feeding the cables through the frame was fun!!

One of my old Avid arch rival v brakes had a crack in it where you can adjust them so I replaced that with an XTR one.

Here are some pics of the finished bike. I know SID shocks are not ideal and I plan on changing to something like marzocchi 66's but that will not be for a while.

Sorry the pics are not as clear as I expected. I will maybe replace in the future.

Cheers,
Paul.

I love GT's! Just picked up an STS 1000 myself....need to get some new bushes and bearings though. Good to see you are up and running..... Nice frame!

Nice one

Forks need beefing up tho... A set of DHOs maybe?

Yeah I plan to upgrade the forks in a couple of months.

I think I will go for something more modern though like Marzocchi 66's.

Well folks, did a bit of work on the bike over the weekend. Fitted some Marzocchi Monster T forks, a front disc brake and a new front wheel.

So the spec is now.

GT STS DH frame
Marzocchi Monster T forks
Shimano XT chainset
SRAM ESP 9 rear mech
SRAM ESP 7 shifters
XTR front mech
Avid Juicy 7 front disc
XTR rear v brake set up
Coda USA seat
XT seat post
Xlite riser bars and bungs
Hope and xlite stem stackers
Easton elite stubby stem
Orange grips
Specialized tyres
Mavic rims
DMR V8 pedals

The forks I think could do with a service so going to look into getting this done as they seem a bit soft to me and it looks like one of the seals could do with being replaced. If anyone knows who i should get to do this please advise!

Well I have sold the Monster T forks.

I got offered a good lot more money than I paid for them. I hope I do not regret selling them as they were in great condition and I have just done an oil and seal change. They were pretty heavy however.

I have some Pace RC150's to replace them. They are brand new in the box so will hopefully arrive in excellent condition.
