It's very short.
26" feel alien to me after 29ers for 5 years
2.2 and 2.1" feels so skinny
The front is so light wheeling is hard!

Re:

Sort the stem or source another.

Sort the another. I am reluctant to do much as once you do a bit you'll end up having to do it all but the decals are really bad and think it needs it.

Look at doing something with the forks. Strip them down perhaps. Or put my better condition spares on it.

Ride it.

I still have modern bikes. I'm saving this from a barn for a friend. So I'll use it as and when and enjoy it for what it is. It needs new bushes at the rear, it's got play in it but I'm just happy to ride it as it is for now.

It is very light!

Re:

Vittoria tyres, new 8 speed cassette and 2 inner tubes for £30 at planet x.

Tyres feel ace - recommended. A fair bit lighter then the awful ones on before.

The flite saves about a ton over the womans sofa saddle that was on it.

Good luck with the refurb'.

Probably doesn't help, but just in case:
I have the same forks - no damping cartridges or elastomers.
Mine are coil sprung - with the damping adjustment provided by the weight of the oil you use.
I might have modified mine as i like these older judy's and have several setups that i use.
From 1999/2000? i think.....

All i can tell you is that every minute/penny you spend on it - the bike will pay you back in spades.
They are an absolute hoot to ride (i will caveat that by pointing out that good suspension and disc brakes help enormously).
Just point it down the hill, hang on and let the bike do its thing.
You might need surgery to remove the grin from your face afterwards though.
