After looking at the box these are CX-DT 125. Obviously not to be confused with another DT125 of the same era. Box dates them as 1990 and you can call the Grip shift hotline on 1-800-346-2928

I have some CX-DT and thought these were the earliest model but not sure now.

There seems to be CX-DT 225 and CX-DT 215. One for Shimano and one for Suntour?

All models listed here but I'm not sure of the differences as I often mix & matched Suntour & Shimano 7 & 8 speed with no ill effects.

That’s what I’m thinking!

Next question… If I’m using a 7spd Sachs freewheel do I go for the Suntour or Shimano version?

CX-DT are not the earliest, they are a bit later. There was the CX before it. It had a plastic knobbly grip area.
(and Cat-1 and DB, but they didn't shift the right direction or had a different bar diameter, then the Pro version of them switching to the foam grip before they went a bit more rubbery).

DT giving you the Double or Triple front setup.
There is a Pro and other versions just before and an even earlier version iirc.
I have a pro front shifter in my hord, came wrongly as a DT front shifter but can't do that.


But they're close enough.


Then it gets easier but slightly less cool even if they worked better with the SRTs

Suntour spacing was different slightly to Shimano, the first few cogs on Suntour had a different spacing to the last few cogs.

I’m not looking for exact period correctness as I’m not really sure when the bike was made, so CX-DT’s will be fine. Just not 100% sure if I need the ‘125 or ‘215 with a freewheel.
