I run a 1 x 1 and a Pugsley for years but originally on my Stumpjumper I ran the singulator with it pushing up as it gives a bit more chain contact on the rear cog and especially with the 32/16, which is what I run as well. I think it comes with the push down spring from memory so you might have to buy the push up spring. They work great and I use one on my Big Dummy which runs and Alfine 8. They are pretty tough bits of kit and I still have my original one from back in 2008/2009.
I think you can just take the front mech off and tighten the BB or fit a washer the same width. As long as you line the chain with the rear your fine.
I still run an old 5 bolt LX ctrank on my 1 x 1 and chain rings are a pain as there isn't much about. I have used middleburn and Surly. The Surly is stainless and lasts forever so while it is expensive, it will even out over time. I have found the middleburn getting harder and harder to find these days.
Hope this helps and look forward to seeing your P7, will make a great SS'er for sure.
