I haven't managed to get through this whole thread. Has anyone suggested a flat bar Surly Straggler build? Or maybe picking up an old Bridgestone XO series frame?

I did. two themes running here no ice in beer and dubious bike building... sketchy to say the least but no no-one suggested any thing of the sort

I can tell you that there was a hell of a lot of sand riding in Thetford at the weekend. It was very squirrel-ey and I don't mean full of fluffy rodents.
