All bikes have an overlap with each other. There’s very little any one bike can’t do. Just look at some of the stuff Epicyclo get over on his roadsters.
For me the gravel bike and my 29er serve very similar roles. Gravel bike comes out on day I know there will be a road bias and the 29er when I’m going for more of a play in the woods kind of day. I could get by with either one of them but I love bikes and don’t need the space, so neither are going anywhere.
