Got my first Pro-flex 756

Retro Newbie
New here. Recently I started riding again after 10 years break. My son learned how to ride without helper wheels. So beside my newer bike I started looking for some bikes that I could never buy when I was kid growing up in the 90s.
Day 1 of looking - $125 Proflex 40 mins away. They owner told me it is a bike he got new and rode maybe few times total. I usually do not believe anything anybody tells me but I figured it might be true as all the components were not worn out at tall. Stored in a garage it had some rust on the bolt heads here and there but I replaced many of them with stainless bolts. He wanted to replace the elastomers and after replacing the rear easy one, on the front ones he stripped 1 important bolt and that way he figured take the loss and sell it. I purchased new elastomers for the front and regreased everything. At first I wanted to change the front to a spring but then the uniqueness will go to waste.

It is really good condition, still original tires without any wear on them. At this point the sidewalls are hard but the thread is somewhat alright. I have seen way worse
THIS IS HOW I GOT IT - collapsed fton

After degreasing the chain rings and casette, they shine so goo. Even the dork disc or whatever is called came out shiny after cleaning it up with like windex only. Now needs a new chain.
I did replace brake cables and housings and pads and it is so good at the moment

And that is the finished bike. So pretty and all around $200 total

Looks good. I've got hands on a 854 recently, but yours look way nicer.

I had a 856 back in the day. Worst bike I have ever ridden :) (no, really). It looked nice, but I couldn't climb technical stuff on it that I easily cleared on my previous Zaskar. Sold the bike after owning it just 5 months, got a new Zaskar. not sure if it was the Rockshox Judy DH's I had installed, maybe the Girvin fork rides better?

The Girvin fork looks better than it rides. Looks is why I got the bike. + I installed new elastomers on the front and they are little too soft, next time I will pick the harder option. They had option for up to 190lbs or 190+. I am right about 190 and it is so soft that I need to be 100lbs to feel right.

Good score! The SFP elastomers offer far less travel than the original foamy MCU’s but it will take the edge off the bumps. If you ride mild XC or smooth dirt trails you’ll likely be satisfied with soft elastomers. You may be able to swap front/rear elastomers. (I’m 225 lbs and have 2 Manitou forks; 1 with firm elastomers, 1 with soft. The soft are superb for cruising.)

I love my ProFlex. It’s nothing like a newer FS, but it’s a fun ride that gets a lot of attention.

My bike will most likely never see any trail. At the most will conquer the lawn on the front of the house
