Anyone remember the Gore-Tex "Ride-On" sealed cable sets?
I bought some bitd and they were still shifting great about 8 Years later
I want to try and find some for a rebuild I'm doing, but chances of finding any NOS are pretty slim. I've seen the modern Sram/Gore sealed cable but they seem to be for road bikes mainly, or would these work ok with old school GripShift?
Goodridge look to do sealed cable sets, but I don't fancy the "Goodridge" logo stamped all over the outer cable.

Anyone know of a source for the old type Gore cables? Or suggest a close alternative?

Re:

I think I have a single set going spare but it'll be shop price.... if I can't get that for it I'll just use it myself.

They are discontinued now.

I'm using the Sram/Gore sealed cables and they seem to work alright. Don't know what the differences would be between the road and MTB shifter cables if any? They're encased all the way through and seem to work fine, but again I'm located in Southern California and my bikes don't see any rain or mud just dust. I'm also using the Nokkon sealed cables which work fine too but those stupid aluminum beads creak every time I turn the handlebars (gotta change those out).

Re:

Ah yes, I was thinking of gear & brake cable sets, and road brakes usually need a different nipple on the brake inner.
I'm using Magura's so only need the gear cables. :)
Sounds like the modern Gore cables might be a good option then....

I'm using Avid Flack Jacket cabling on my rear shifter on my Stumpy M2, I installed it in about 1998(ish). It's still shifting perfectly today. Dreading the day I have to change it and go back to bog standard stuff....

Re:

Ditto that fit Flak Jacket and Snake Skins, brilliant stuff! Ride-on was probably the ultimate though.

Loving Nokon as well recently, it's never dry enough to creak here - feel free to send your's my way Syncrosfan! ;)

Yes, I'm on the look out for the Gore originals for some V's of mine, the newer Sram equivalent seems like a watered down version to me. One of my Super V's has had "Gore ride ons" since new, 1995 I've never had to adjust them.

Having had to strip quite a number of bikes of their cabling and outers i will note the the gore stuff does come out of the outer smoother that a standard. Even though these would normally be destined for the bin it is noticeable :?

I have found on some of them though, that the inner cable coating went 'fluffy' :? Might have been down to the tightness of the curve with them rubbing on the inside. I didnt take note at the time of whether that was rear cables which thinking on it might move more than the rest.

Re:

Also notice the cable coating went 'fluffy'. It depends on the climate and abuse I believe. I then to change cable at least once a year (specially the rear one)

Another really great solution is Transfil Flying snake. Basically the same as Gore and the new Jag Wige, except they don't use grommet to seal the end and most important! They don't use teflon coating on the cable, so no fluffy problem!

Still prefer the Jag Wire over the transfil basically because of the seal end.
