Re: JMC Specialized S-Works FSR Team race bike 1994/95

I'd buy a raffle ticket or two!

Re:

Right, anyone got any ideas about how this could run?

Perhaps there is a trusted MOD that could look after the funds, i.e the money for each raffle ticket bought goes into a MOD's paypal account then when the tickets are sold out the draw is made and witnessed somehow.

I was thinking.....

50 Tickets up for grabs priced at £80.00 each

If a member buys just a single ticket then he/she has a 1 in 50 chance of winning this special bike. Obviously the more tickets one buys the greater the chance of owning the bike!

There is no cap on the amount of tickets that an individual can purchase.

Re:

I don't think it will work, there are 7ish people on here with some vauge interest on here, not me.
Otherwise chances are they would have posted with their 2pence worth or registered some interest.

We don't get the sort of numbers you need at bike ride turn outs, not even at its peak on the most popular nationals.
Not even that sort of interest in a free to enter win nothing photo contests.

That's a lot of money on a ticket for a site that was built around skrimpers finding bikes in tips ;-)

If eBay couldy make the money, it's just not worth that much.

Good luck trying though.

Re:

It seems odd to me that when I won the bike for £5100 there were others bidding around the same sort of money, same with the hardtail at £5500! I can't understand how the same bike with the same provenance valued by the same "community" of JMC/90's mountain bike fans can now be worth less?
I can only compare the bike to a vintage wine, a quality painting or a quality watch - they simply shouldn't decrease in value, they are looked after by custodians until they are sold or handed on through the family.
Surely since August last year when I bought the bike JMC is still as highly thought of and what the bike represents is still meaningful today?
Any thoughts?

Re:

Wasn't it some anniversary or something back then, so hype would have been high.

That's when you want to sell if you're looking to make money.

At the moment it is just tucked away in a thread in a forum. Hype it up on Facebook or twitter in all the vintage retro groups you can find will gain greater interest in an eBay sale. Of course it'll need to be 15% or so more than you got it for to break even on eBay.

Just my opinion of course.

Re:

Indeed and I take what you are saying on board, it's great to get some feedback of any sort really.
Just thought I would also mention that I am not looking to make money, I would just like as much back from the £5100 as possible.

Re: JMC Specialized S-Works FSR Team race bike 1994/95

I'd have it if I had lots of disposable income, but everything I have is tied up in the house, kids, etc, etc. I guess a lot of people that say JMC as a hero are in a similar position.
Are you taking it up to Warwick on the 13th Sept?! You never know who might be there!
For me the memories of sitting on the original bikes and rolling around the carpark at NWMTB with JMC are sufficient... I'd still like to build a 'tribute' bike and use and abuse it.

Re:

Got to agree with some of the previous posters. There are a lot of fans of JMC, but probably not too many with even the price of a £25 raffle ticket easily to hand, never mind £5.1K - even if their better halfs would let them buy it.

Have you considered just relisting it on eBay? If you can drum up a bit of interest on forums like this it might achieve it's previous price or more (or it might not). In any case, you'll likely find it's true market price - and also probably quicker than any other route. I guess the fear is that it's current market price might be considerably lower. Not everything appreciates in value unfortunately, and there can be peaks and troughs as well.

I guess if I was buying something like this, and looking for a return I might take it to the various gatherings and events and perhaps charge people a few quid to give it quick ride/get their photo taken with it.

Re: JMC Specialized S-Works FSR Team race bike 1994/95

£25 :? spend that on the beer and curry takeaway coming home on a weekend after spending 60-80 and that is not unusual for most going out to the pubs and clubs at the weekend
On the bike side how many of us would buy a £25 bit on ebay on a whim or drunken whim and tbh not really care too much about it.
£25 :? nothing really.

Re:

I agree! Considering the odds of winning are fantastic and the prize is so desirable, I would say that £50 per ticket is completely realistic!
