Going modern, but with a vintage look. What groupset?

Hi guys,

These days I'm finding myself wanting a more modern, comfortable and high-quality ride than my current Peugeot Premiere.
I still don't know whether I want to stick with a vintage frame or get a new one (steel), but one question is: what groupset?
For me the bike has to be functional because I ride it every day, but I also have to like the aesthetics of it, and modern groupsets, especially chainsets (Shimano Claris, Sora, Tiagra, 105) are painful to watch.
I like the clean, slim look of vintage chainsets. All metal, and no plastic. Is there anything these days that looks like that?
Or would I need to buy a used one?
