Godio, Italy?

Looking at this for my son. The seller says it's an Italian Godio. Comes with a Record head set, bracket and seat post. 36mm Italian BB. Seems a quality build, Columbus likely. Almost zero info online, but that's not unusual for a small production Italian frame builder. Nice panto with shamrocks on the lugs. I like it because it's a bit unusual.

Anyone any gen?

At least two Godio brothers were pro cyclists, Spirito during the 1940s and Giorgio during the mid-1950s. Story is that Spirito learned frame building at Masi and Cinelli before opening a workshop in their home town Borgomanero, north west of Milan. That having been said, early Godio frames were supposedly built by Mario Peloso in Alessandria which is further south, close to Genoa. I thought the red frame appeared a bit modern (recessed brake bolts) but Spirito was reputed to still be building frames into his 80s and passed away in 2005.

Thanks Jim, that's a lot more info than I've been able to find. As usual your knowledge of Italian bikes and frame builders is second to none 👍👌

A bit more searching led to this Flickr album.
Curiously, Spirito is recorded as having been born in December but the name was traditionally given to children born at Pentecost which is 50 days after Easter Sunday.

Yes, the red frame is pretty similar to mine (I just bought it haha!). Finding decals though is gonna be a problem, but there's a guy on a German retro forum who specialises in. 'out of print' Italian and French repro decals that are hard to get. Next port of call 🤙
