Retro Newbie
I was recently given this bike in a neglected state by an old work colleague who had not ridden it for years, After some TLC and a respoke, It is looking half decent, The chrome on the front forks cleaned up nicely with a Brillo pad and I've polished up the rest with Autoglym. i understand from my mate that he imported it direct from Italy in the 1980's and it cost over £300 . I have since discovered from an acquaintance in the Bygone Bikes (Yorks) Club that it was illustrated in an advert by Wielersport, (Bognor Regis) from Page 17 of the August 31 1985 edition of Cycling weekly. The bike is in original condition, the paintwork has seen some wear and tear but the component are in good condition. The specs are as follows. Columbus tubing, Gipiemme Chronosprint Groupset, TTT bars and stem, Mavic GP4 sprints and tubs. The Gipiemme front and rear mechs are Simplex with a Gipiemme badge, but these have recently been replaced with Campag Nuovo Record Items In the advert the bike is listed as "Gibicci" and the frame size is 52cm. I would be interested to find out more about this marque, and have attached a few images, both as I originally received and now in its more recent state.
