Retro Newbie
Hi, I am looking for informations about a Giant ONCE...
It is an old but NOS frame.. has any value? ... worth it to build?... If anyone could help me with infos like .. year model, Weight, is it OCR or TCR?.. I am confused..(...and differences), which groupset from that era should I look for, to match with the frame?
Thank you

It's not glue, it's welding as its aluminium not carbon. Looks Like a TCR Team, they made them for several years, the fork was the big thing that changed between years I think. Looks to be around 1999ish. SOme came with Campag Record, others with Shimano 105.

Most years IIRC Once used Campag.

I'd go with that, as it has curved forks. The later ones had a straight fork and a 1 1/8 fork steerer. Yours also looks like a standard headset, so would go first generation TCR

Re:

... so .. mine (first picture)... TCR moder, late 1999's, curved fork, but BETTER WELDING..?
second picture with hard welding and straight fork is later generation?...make sense?

looking on internet I found some they say tcr or ocr... some other say ''once team''...
all these are the same ? just different year? ...
Anybody has infos about TCR vs OCR version?
which year this bike became a TEAM bike?
any weight info's?
Sorry if asking too much... any link will be welcome..!

Re: tcr ocr

The tcr predates the ocr. Mike burrows went out to work for Giant in the mid 90s after his success designing the monocoque bikes for Boardman's Olympic success. Giant built the mcr monocoque frame - great ridw but very noisy, quickly dropped after the UCI restrictions on frame design. Alongside it was the tcr the first production compact frame, designed in part so you'd only need 3 standard sizes, much better for industry and sales. You should still be able to pick up one of the adjustable stems that it came wit.

You may be correct in that the TCR came first, but they were both in existence together too. TCR = Team Compact Racing and is the flagship model. OCR = Ordinary Compact Racing and aimed at those not so fussy about having the best.

Later on came TCR1, TCR2 .. and OCR1, OCR2 etc where I think the lower the number, the more expensive it is. But I'm not 100% on this, so check
