What this whole episode has done is strengthen my resolve though. To make as much money as I need to effectively retire at 42
What age are you at the moment?

Good God no!
That means he'll have even more time to talk shite in here

Was reading Orwell in the waiting room yesterday. To quote (ish)

"Capitalism is the disease for which socialism is the cure whereas communism would kill the patient.

Fascism is the iron fist of capitalism without the velvet glove."

I think money I earn should stay mine. The fact that's in any way controversial shows how far down the road we are. I'm honest about it, and I'm not much fussed about what anyone else thinks.
That's fine.

Unless your house is on fire. Or you're involved in a car accident. Needing an emergency response. Or public order control. Or you need someone to clean the streets where you live. Or you want to drive on roads that are maintained. Or walk in public parks that are maintained. Playing with your kids in playgrounds put up by the local council. Or you need a registrar, for a birth/death/marriage. Hatch/match/despatch one of my registrar friends used to call it! You obviously won't be in need of a state pension, given your wealth.
Are you an employer, or one man band ? What business are you in, broadly speaking?
Not to mention planning and procedures for the house you live in. Still, what have the public services ever done for us, eh?
Nothing like a bit of hyperbole eh? Nobody said anything about not paying, simply reducing my liability as per any normal business. Anyone not on PAYE takes measures to reduce their tax, it's perfectly normal and legitimate.

I'm 39. Marketing is the main concern, but I have an interest in a double glazing firm and have several others in the pipeline. Botox potentially next. Good money in botox.

Getting back on subject :D

I must admit I do grin when I know that Corbyn is being kept out of parliament by a woman who as a child, Corbyns friends the ira, tried to kill when they bombed a school bus she was on. There does seem quite a delicious irony with that.

I've read Orwell a fair bit over the years and have always felt that while he was good at highlighting many different ills in society he never really demonstrated any convincing cure. The problem is that "socialism" is an extremely vague idea to which almost everybody actually subscribes - the trouble is that nobody really agrees on just exactly where socialism becomes communism or fascism.

Material prosperity is not everything or even the best thing in life, and in order to equally redistribute the finite resources / prosperity of our country we would need to use some degree of force. Whether this were martial or merely financial forces, individual freedoms are inevitably impinged upon; I would suggest that the evidence shows that the more thoroughly a nation implements "socialism", the less genuine freedom individuals enjoy.

There is no easy answer, and in my view until the end of time there will be the "haves" and the "have nots" - for a healthy society the gap between them should be as small as possible, and financial rewards / salaries should as closely as possible reflect the achievements and hard work of each individual.

Agree, I do notice more throwing Orwell and 1984 without either having read it properly with all it's subtle nuance's or just read half of it

Quick Skit
man 1 Everyone should have the same opportunities and wealth
Man 2 I agree, the "man" has oppressed us for far too long
Man in China I agree too but for me to be as equal as you, your latest iphone will become £1,400
Man 1 & 2 Erm, erm, sorry buddy, we were only talking about people in our country
