And raspberry jam without raspberries is just jam, what's your point?

Lost on you obviously.

Checks and balances

Well exactly...pure capitalism doesn't work because it is fascism. Pure socialism doesn't work because its communism.

These are simple terms with many nuances but basically one doesn't sit well without the other. And then there is the balance...for me, today, the fat pig of capitalism is weighing down the swing in the UK and much of the western world.

There is another way that suits us all...even techodup!

This is true,I have not learnt to speak tin hat gibbery yet and google translate is found to be wanting

If you are truly seeking equality, no government can give it, people have to, otherwise all you offer is selective equality.

You can beat your anti tory rhetoric drum all you want but people make the nation more than any government and this is why very little changes other than the party you are moaning at, blaming them for the troubles of the day.

as to "the fat pig of capitalism" you had no problem making profits out of people when you had your own business. what you offer is selective implementation based on what suits you at the time, hardly equality at all

Very true. But it seems too many think governments have a magic wand.

We should forget about government, and concentrate our thoughts on improving things for ourselves and those around us. If everyone did that we'd all be better off and government's job might not be impossible.

It is quite simple (and free) to reduce our burden on the NHS. It is quite simple (and free) to become better educated. It is quite simple to better manage ones finances. Note I say simple, not easy. But if we as individuals took ownership of our life choices... ach, why bother, I'm wasting my time.

IT'S ALL THE GOVERNMENT'S FAULT! GIVE ME FREE MONEY! TORIES!

Question for everyone:

Which countries do you think have the best set up re tax, health, education, infrastructure etc?

(I guess lefties going to go for Nordic countries, the righties for?)

Germany (not because I live here in general but of many years of positive experiences in the above stated question) A very interesting thread btw!

USA, obviously.

Highest level of foreign born citizens, highest immigration etc. Many here will scoff at their levels of healthcare, public transport etc but all those immigrants can't be wrong. The land of opportunity and freedom is a big draw.

Of course there is more to it than the items you list. Opportunities/support to start businesses, people's attitude towards success, the fact people want to be Americans, and take a pride in that, unlike where we often have people who want to keep all their home traditions and essentially enclave parts of the UK.

Generally regarded as the most powerful nation on earth. Because it's the most successful. Because of the points above.
