GB Coureur 66

Glug

Old School Hero
Hiya Folks.
I just got some GB Coureur 66 - the second version with 2 springs.
I'm trying to clean them up and service the pivots.

What I'm wondering is how to remove the springs safely and whether there's any point - can the pivots be removed ?

I've already broken one spring and got one off.
I'm going to leave the others alone unless I can find somebody who knows how to do it.

Lift the spring from the groove on the backplate. Wiggle spring out of pivot. Twist pivot carefully whilst pulling towards you and it should come out. Later ones have a small slotted screw. Did you need a spring?
Edit they are a light press fit so will be quite tight.

"Lift the spring from the groove on the backplate."

Did that, spring didn't want to come out so I pushed it with a small drift a couple of mm, then wiggled some more.
One came off and the other broke next to the pivot.

Interesting - seems you are saying the pivot comes out of the arm if I pull it somehow ?

Yep, I'm currently short by 1 spring.
I'm going to wait for a 'parts only' on Ebay, there was one about 3 weeks back.

I'll see if I have a spare

Yes with varying success. Some are really tight and won't play ball. I have two springs for you.
With the GB badge off, you can see the pivot. It will only come out one way.
Edit GB badge is fragile and you may scrap it getting it of, your call.

That looks to be away from the "GB" badge ?

So
1) remove GB badge
2) press from that side

Is the GB badge stuck on ?

Yes, that's why you try to pull them out from the back first. Badge is stuck on.
To clarify, punch through from the front IE badge side or pull from spring side. You can see the pivot is shouldered.

Thanks for the detailed info, I now understand how it works.

I've installed the front brake on my 61 Holdsworth Cyclone so I'll see how effective it is.
I'll just wait for a cheap spring on Ebay, but thanks for looking.

Edit. front brake was a Mafac Racer properly adjusted so interesting to see if GB is better.
