Thanks for your response.
I will ask Carsten for some advice on model differences etc.
What is the condition of each of the bikes?
Thanks,
the probably most important difference is that the Pulse 2 is a medium (20") and both Adroits are Large (21") frames so you need to determine which one would fit you best. rule of thumb is that up to 180cm size you can ride the medium and above better the large frame.
the Pulse 2 is basically the same frame as the 96/97 Adroit frame except that it has a standard 1 1/8" head tube and thus updating the fork and stem is very simple. the Pulse frame was designed around the Judy XC (65mm travel i think) but can take up to 70mm, maybe 80mm travel suspension forks if they don't build overly tall. otherwise the really nice riding characteristics would be affected negatively (but that' a bit of a personal taste).
both Adroit frames have the Klein specific Airhead set with oversized press-fit bearings and they require a fork with the Klein specific oversized steerer tube and also a Klein specific stem. selection of forks and stems is very limited and replacement bearings are not easy to get and expensive. there are reducers and replacement head sets (
www.reset-racing.com) available that allow to run standard 1 1/8" forks though but removing fork and bearings requires special tools if done properly. or a hammer
uups, just see that the 2000 Adroit already has the reducers and a standard fork and stem installed...
the Adroits both have standard threaded bottom bracket shells and you can run Vbrakes on the rear without any problem.
the Pulse 2 frame has the Klein press-fit bottom bracket which is not as easy to replace as a standard bottom bracket but on the other hand uses cheap and long lasting industrial bearings. but you can only run square taper cranks on the standard spindle, not the fancy and modern splined cranks. but again, there's a conversion bottom bracket that allows to run splined cranks but it is still press-fit and not cheap (
www.reset-racing.com). the Pulse 2 frame does not have a Vbrake stop and running Vbrakes on the rear requires a special adapter or one needs to drill the cable outlet and run the cable housing through the frame.
the Adroit frames are very similar but the 2000 frame is adjusted for longer travel suspension forks. none of the frames can take disc brakes.
overall the Pulse 2 frame still has all the pre-Trek fetish features and a somewhat nicer finish (welds and paint quality) and i am biased as i ride such a Pulse 2 since 11 years and don't want anything else.
the 97 Adroit doesnt give you much advantage over the Pulse 2 but you have the unflexible MC2 stem and fork size.
from a rider's perspective the 2000 Adroit seems to be most attractive especially since it already has the head set conversion.
if i had to choose among those three i would take the Quantum Pro
Klein road bikes are a blast to ride!
