If we're including hairspray surely we have to include talcum powder for tubes? I'm still using the bottle of Slazenger talc my granny gave me for Christmas... she died over 20 years ago and I'm sure she gave me that bottle of talc about a decade before that!

Always used to use it for tight or poorly seated tyres but read somewhere it contains salts (?) leading to corrosion in rims??? Now tend to use veg oil which works well.

Modern toothpaste tubes .

Cut the ends off and split down the middle. This makes a flexible strong sheet that can be used inside a split tyre to stop the tube coming out. Can be used at a decent pressure, too. Plastic money notes may also work, but haven't tried them.

Dishwasher as a degreaser/cleaner. Was rebuilding a mate's Kona Coiler, stuck all the rear suspension components in to make them sparkle.
