Fuel economy - What do you get?

I have finally got round to booking the 'Beast' in for an MOT. I will let you know what the MPG is like. When it is warming up (choke engaged) it spits petrol and flames out of the carbs, (why does it do that? Too much petrol I suppose) and, once up to speed it will fire metre long flames from the exhaust on the over run.

The C-Max disappeared... "Hurrahh!" :D :D :D

And was replaced, in March, with an Octavia (1.6) TDi estate

That sees an average of 55-60MPG for 'knocking about', longer (but still localish) runs, & SWMBO heading off down to Cardiff & Newport a couple of times per week

Plus, the VED is only £30 :D

On a sadder note, the XKR also went recently.
It was a logistic decision;

1. With an average of 18MPG in daily use, it was expensive
2. The steering rack was starting to wear, apparantly a known fault (& needed replacement shortly)
3. Insurance was okay (less than £400 F/C). but a standing cost
4. With less than 7,000 miles in 4 years, it was just a garage ornament really

We'd had it 4 yesrs, vaastly enjoyed it whilst we had it (as it was the type of car we'd never envisaged owning)

Years ago I had a BMW 750iL, back on the days with my wealthy ex wife. Being really careful I could get 22ish MPG all round but stamp on the loud pedal and it would drop to 0.6 MPG, nearly 2 gallons a mile. Thus I had this 5 litre V12 jet turbine beastie that used to get overtaken by Nova cos I couldn't afford to overtake anyone myself.

I loved that car, but come divorce both that and my P6 V8 had to go and I ended up quite a whole without a car.
