Front mech issue

Re:

Cant see why any 2 speed front shifter wont work. The end stops are sef by limit screws. You may get chain rub when using extreme gears which you shoukdnt be using anyway i.e. big front big rear or little - little.

Try it and youll be surprised, hopefully in a good way.

Aren't 11 speed shimano front mechs now on a different pull ratio?

I know the road ones are.

Road and mtb 11 speed are no longer compatible but Im also wondering if there will be too much chain rub if running 10 speed with 11,the cage seems a bit narrow on the 11,I can imagine a racket when the chain is ran toward the end of the cassette.

I was looking at much the same info for the sram 10 and was pointed to the cyclocross forums where they seem to have more interest in whats compatible with what .

Any help ?

A bit was saying the rings arent any narrower. i skipped that bit really, as i was interested in rear mech/cog combinations

I took a chance,I bought the mech and will be fitting it this afternoon.I`ll let ye know how I get on.

I did the same with the rear mech. 99% sure it would work and i was sure i could make it.
Besides, you can speculate forever and not get it fitted. Best to go for it

The article i was reading(and i think its in the link) was how the rings arent thinner. So it points me to think(without any real info) that because the rings are the same and their spacing is the same, the thinner chain(only how much thinner :? has to be utterly tiny) that the mech would be perfectly fine and would run 10, 11 or even 12.

In my own tech data hunt, which is admittedly a rear and different but i do see in Srams compatibility chart that front mechs work pretty much no matter the number of gears.

My only concern here, and i think it no longer applies, is the length of the cage, as when it was with compact and 'Alpine'

That said
I was running a 9x3 with a 46/36t but i found the modern mtb X9 mechs couldnt handle the 46. I say couldnt but what i mean is shouldnt because i got it to work as a x2.
The X9 is 44T capacity and it just bridged the gap, JUST. Fettling was an utter nightmare.

So i reckon you'd likely be fine :D The fact youre using the correct length of cage. But again ill add it might be down to positioning and fettling to find a sweet spot where it will just work.

All ready to go bar a 10 speed chain that the LBS didnt have in stock and I wasnt going to shell out for an XTR one, ordered one from CRC yesterday so hopefully get it tomorrow.
