Sorry for the wall of text just trying to fathom a1980 peugeot pkn10....trying to get bits together while frame gets done.

The headset is french (stronglight - light race? ) has flat on threads rear of steerer and 22mm stem. The bottom races need replacing while tops are fine.
Fork crown measures 26.5mm ish so I can use English bottom races with french top?
If I can do I buy a cheap stronglight a9 and use bottom cups as an example? Also what bearings do I use , loose or caged and where from.

The bottom bracket is Swiss, so french threads with left thread fixed. The axle is pitted so needs attention.

Do I just swap in a threadless bottom bracket or is it worth trying to keep the original cups with a new axle.
Didn't know if threadless being newer would be better quality.

My axle measures 54mm between bearing shoulders while this one is 52mm

Would I have 2mm adjustment in cups to fit?
Believe they are same bearings as headset.

Cheers guys

Velo Orange do a nice French threaded headset.
It's decent quality and doesn't look out of place on older frames.

English and French bottom cups are all the same so you can use an English one

If the bb cups are fine then you could use the bb, if the spindle length is correct for the cranks you want to use. It might be cheaper to use a threadless bb than to source the correct spindle in decent condition though...
