Thought I would share this beautiful Frank Lipscombe classic road bike. Frank Lipscombe was a frame builder and had a shop in Markhouse Road, East London.

Bit of a back story to it, my Dad bought this bike second hand in the 70’s and used it to commute to work. We recommissioned it about 20 years ago but it went back up in the loft after little use. It’s back out again and I am going to spend some time cleaning it up and refurbishing what I can. But it’s in great shape.

steel, lugged frame with original decals.
Mavic Montherly Route lightweight Sprint Rims.
Tubular Tyres.
Campagnolo Hubs.
5 speed, Campagnolo Gran Sport rear mech (not fitted).
Stronglight cranks
Dual Campagnolo shifters
Lyotard Berthet Pedals, toe clips and leather straps.
Cinelli Bar and IL Primo Di Lusso Stem.
Mafac Brakes.

I don’t see many of these bikes out there so think it’s pretty rare.

Chris

Thanks for sharing, have been looking for hoods, haven’t been able to find any original
Mafac replacements but these look like a good alternative 👍🏼

Very nice looking machine, I'm not sure I've seen one like it before. I'm also not sure that is a Cinelli stem. It looks more like an Il Primo to me. There should be a rubber bung in the hole. The Mafac brakes are interesting as well. I wonder if Mafac actually made them and they could be rebranded (Modolo?). I think that Frank was a good time triallist in his younger years. Some where I have an article in a Sporting Cyclist magazine from the 60's that writes about him and his generation.

Thanks for the reply, you’re correct it’s an IL primo de lusso stem.

I recall my dad buying the Mafac brakes from a local bike shop (Rory O’brian) many many years ago and they were bought as a NOS set in the box.

yeah I think this was a TT bike, very short wheelbase. From Wheel touches your feet when you turn and your foot is out front! 😂

i cannot get the wheel out,on my Serotta, without deflating the rear tire and i have toe overlap also. it's traditional road race geo •
