Fox Vanilla Float

Retro Newbie
Hi guys,

I’m new to all of this but hoping for some much needed advice. I’ve got a specialized stuntjumper xc (1999 ish)? Which has a leaking rear shock. I’m hoping to restore the bike to its full glory. Any advice on how to restore the shock so it stops leaking?

Thanks,
Myles

Re:

The obvious answers are:

1. Send it off for a service. There are the usual big boys like tf tuned or smaller outfits like rebound, rsf etc.

2. Find a service kit and diy. Shocks and forks are not as complicated or daunting as you might think as long as you have the tools, service kit, patience and dont mind giving it a go. Plenty of online resources to help. It's how I learned. It's quite rewarding too.

3. Source a new shock. You could try and find a direct replacement, or you could get a newer shock. Vital measurements to ensure it fits are the eye to eye measurement of the unit you have at full extension and the stroke. The latter is I believe simply the amount the shock compresses, usually the length of the shaft from seal to end, but dont quote me on that.

Good luck, I had one of these once and they are nice frames.

Thanks for the reply!

I’ve stripped it down to see if I could find the source of the leak but no luck! :(

I was hoping somebody could point me towards the correct service kit for this shock I’ve tried the usual sites like eBay without any success so far.

Thanks again,
Myles

Re: Fox Vanilla

I have this exact bike and had an identical issue with the shock. I also stripped the shock to inspect for the cause of the issue but had no luck...... in the end i shipped mine to TF Tuned, great service and the shock has been perfect since.

Re:

Glad to hear you got yours fixed. How long ago was this? I wasn’t sure if they wouldn’t touch it due to its age? And how much did it cost?

Thanks

Re:

I had the shock serviced in April last year. I can't remember the exact cost but it was around £100 as I remember inc return post + the cost of shipping to them.
