Currently building up a 98 kona muni mula, I bought the frameset inc gears off ebay for £50, going 1 x 9 with a raceface crankset and bb again off e bay. Its all been e bay bargains and I'm currently about £140 into the bike, got it almost built up and the weight seems to be in the front end. manitou six super forks they seem to work ok, not perfect but ok. I know in cycling light cheap and strong don't usually exist but what would be a budget lightweight alternative fork? i don't want to go too mad and spend more on a fork than the bike has cost me.

Frame - kona muni mula 98 (15")
Fork - manitou six super
Stem - tioga alloy stem
Bars - Fred salmon
Crankset - Race face respond with 32 tooth blackspire narrow wide ring
Wheels - alex rims with shimano hubs
Brakes - promax alloy levers with shimano alivio calipers

Probably I'd go with a Marzocchi Z2 or 3 - plenty around and still with full spares available. If you could find a Superfly at the right price that would be great.

Alternatively try a Manitou SX or SXTi - they seem to be unloved, are light and go for buttons.
