Forgotten vows...

Today I was reminded why I once vowed never to use presta valved tubes ever again. Just riding along to the shops gently braking and suddenly the front tyre is flat as a pancake. Walked home and took out the tube to check what happened. The same old thing that always plagued me the last time I as running presta valves some 10 years ago. Split right at the valve stem. Seems that the braking force pulling on the tyre and tube causes this and to me it happens far too easily.

Back to schrader valves from now on.

Good grief. I've used prestas for years without issue. Were you using 5psi?

do you tighten the locking collar before pumping up to pressure?

I see that all the time...

if you tighten the locking collar before pumping up the tyre you strch the tube excessively at the valve and then it splits.

Pump up then tighten down the locking collar to stop the rattle.

:D

Schrader are so uncouth, a presta valve says your a man of taste and class.
