For Sale Beautiful early 1970s (1971?)Dawes Galaxy bike £180

Dirt Disciple
Here we have a very good looking early 1970s, possibly 1970 Dawes Galaxy touring bike which is in great condition for it’s age (although there is surface rust as you can see in the photos and would expect from a 40 year old bike).
Seat tube centre to centre = 58cm
Top tube centre to centre = 58cm
The parts are in working order and as far as I can tell are all original apart from the bar tape and the tyres (I can provide the original tyres which came with this bike although they are shot).
The gearing is Simplex with Weinmann centre pull brakes and levers. The front derailleur is rather snazzy and uses a piston type arrangement to shift gear. The wheels are 27 1/4 and are in great condition.
I had to remove on decal as it was completely scratched up – the decal in question is the same as the gold on the seat tube and could be found nearer the top of the seat tube.
Before riding you should check the brake adjustment and gearing adjustment as with any second hand purchase.
The rolls saddle pictured is not for sale, I shall throw in the saddle which came with this bike which was a brooks – however it is not a leather brooks, rather a lower tier version which also has a slight rip as seen in the photos.
I am located near to Fareham, which is about 10 miles from Portsmouth. Viewing is more than welcome and advised. I can post this bike but really would prefer not to and would have to add on the postage and packaging costs. More photos and information can be supplied.
I am asking for £200 for this good looker and I will consider all offers – so don’t be afraid to make them even if they are shy of the £200 as this bike really needs to go! (I am off to Uni at the start of October and so 1. Need the beer money and 2. Can’t take/use this bike!)

bought for £100 , what did you do to it to make it £100 more expensive!!!

Thanks for phrasing that so nicely - not sure if this is mean to antagonise me or not - would be interesting to know your alias on that forum

Firstly I have said I will take offers on this, feel free to make ano offer on what you think it is worth.

Secondly I spent a lot of time on this and had some work done by the LBS and thirdly the cost of the additional parts in order to restore this to working order makes up a large lump of that second £100 - I can provide a more detailed break down of items bought for this on here or via PM if really demanded (I will admit that some of these items were not bought for this project specifically).

Thirdly I want to make a little bit of beer money for when I head off to uni. I won't be making much profit when you consider all the costs which have gone into this bike, but I'll have gained one or two pints out of it - is that such a crime? My original intention was to use this bike as a hack - but in reality it is too small and frankly too nice to use as a hack.

nope just wanted to know what had been done on the bike! Sounds good at £200 ono

btw what is that mark on the chrome on the fork?

It is an attatchment for a light - Not sure why these style of light attatchments crop up on bikes here and there. If you check out the photobucket album I linked then there might be a clearer photo of it

http://i734.photobucket.com/albums/ww34 ... yFS018.jpg Hmmm tried to capture it in that one but I guess it still isn't clear - sorry if they are not the best photographs. I did try and capture all of the bike close up though if that redeems me at all :p

I've never posted a bike so I don't know how much it would cost. As I said though, although I would like to sell for £200+postage that isn't a fixed price and offers are considered :D
