Usual Story with this one:
Saw it, liked it, bought it, built it, rode it, saw something else...........
Purchased this mid 2012 after the frame had just been professionally resprayed and re-decalled.
See my build thread here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=221824
I've just bought a Saracen Ultra Ti frameset so I've decided to sell the Kona to make some more space in the crowded garage. Especially as a DeKerf is on its way from Ackers.............
Spec:
- 1994 Kona Explosif Frame 19" centre to top. Full professional respray in original colour and re-decal job. Perfect aside from 2 chips on driveside chainstay and 2 on top tube. I've touched up and re-lacquered these already and have taken photos so you can see location. The touch up paint used was from the original batch but has come up slightly darker (but not as dark in real life as the photos). I will include the pot of touch up paint. The seat clamp is original and has just been re-threaded (helicoiled).
- Kona Project 2 Forks. Again resprayed and decalled. Perfect. 410mm long and the more desirable, lighter triple butted version.
- Kona Control Centre headset. Looks good but not perfect. Works fine as I've just installed new bearings and loads of Finish Line grease. Its not perfectly smooth when spinning in free air but not something you notice when the wheel is in and being ridden.
- Original Kona Velocity Stem (inc top cap). Good condition. Would be very good with some new clamp bolts as the current ones are quite rusty.
- Original Kona shimmed titanium bar. Very good condition.
- Kona grips (used 5 times - not shown in photos).
- New Brand-X seat post. 27.2mm x 400mm. Light and strong and looks very similar to the original Kona Model.
Please note: The outer 10mm of the drive-side Bottom Bracket threads are slightly undersize (don't know why). The threads are perfectly intact but a Shimano UN54 BB threads will not engage. The inner 10mm are fine so if you have a BB with a long thread (a Shimano M900 XTR one I tried worked OK) you'll be fine. Otherwise you can invest £40 in a Velo-Orange expanding BB http://www.pedalpedlar.co.uk/collection ... om-bracket). I was going to do this as its a really high quality, lightweight item and elegantly resolves this minor issue. Or, you could find a work-around with helicoiling yourself, getting a bike builder / engineering firm to do it (again about £40) or using some thick locktite. Your choice!. Non driveside BB and all other threads are fine.
