Flat? or SPD shoe conundrum...

I did have those on my retro Raleigh Dyna-Tech, and they were actually ok, saved me changing pedals over every few days.
But the style of riding I do now on my modern MTB demands a wider platform pedal and grippy flat shoes.

Anyone use the Saint pedals? All I read is good reviews about them.

Was reading on singletrack forum yesterday someone asking for alterntives to Saints as he and his son had issues with bearings failing after only a ocuple of weeks use. Can't find the link now though. :?
