Fixed off roading

Retrobike Rider
I had a play the last few winters fixed and realise I have a "spare" bike and a flip flop wheel. Thinking 32 x 15, as I have to ride on the road to get to mud.

But can anyone suggest where I can get a short 150 - 160mm chainset capable of taking a 32t ring?

Highpath did some cut down cranks for the back of each of my tandems.

I'd heard that Chris Bell has not been well recently, but he does a fab job.

Older cranks like Shimano early 90's 110 PCD ones are good for conversion as the arms are good and thick. But you won't get a 32T ring to fit, it's 34T min.

Off the shelf then it's TA usually - and that ain't going to be cheap, although they are nice cranks. Middleburn do 165's apparently, not sure if their forging can go as short as 160mm.

Thanks for the info. Both options are a tad too much as this is going to be knocked about a bit. Soeone suggested junior / kids cranks.

Speak to Cab, he probably has some spares - i believe he's had some sets shortened.

failing that, you can get middleburn RS7s in 165

can i ask why shorter cranks for an off road fixed ?

Cornering. You can't stop the pedals from turning in the bends, so you'll ground the arms pretty easily. Try it on a bike with a freewheel next time you're out - keep pedalling through the bends, it's nuts!

Think some early 90's Shimano are 94 PCD - like LX of a particular year? Certainly some, if not all, of Suntour XC line are 94 PCD and are good and thick for conversion.

Any good?
Other configuration possible
I would mind of the maximum admissible load though
