Fix Blemish On Clear Coat Aluminium Frame

odd that it has a clear coat. :? the 92 catalogue denotes colour as "natural" and my frame didn't have a clearcoat, as are/were the two Experience frames i own(ed). 91 catalogue states "pearlized, clear coat silver" as the colour for the Cirrus.

i've confirmed that a 90s Cirrus with 27.0mm seat tube has a serial number of YA0.

Going to get a buddy to make me up new decals so will likely strip it down to the raw aluminum anyway. I think polishing it will be easier than dealing with the clearcoat.

Polishing and youll be doing it fortnightly FOREVER Honestly thats not the way to go. You will need a clearcoat on alloy and i wouldnt think any manufacturer would sell a frame without a protective coat on it.
Raw alloy wont oxide uniformly and youll get a cloudy appearance rather quickly,makes it look tatty and it would take a bit of time for the oxide to build up enough to look reasonable, though that 'coating' in itself is very weak and scratched easily . Plus the surface being 'open' will attract stains and they will be very difficult to remove for a uniform shine :?

Ive just stripped a ti glide and fatso from a very faded red to polished and have just tonight put a couple of layers of the lacquer i mentioned previously. I polished them up really nice about 4 days ago and theyve sat in the living room till this morning when i found they had started to dull off slightly and needed a going over before putting on some lac*.
Which never looks good when done with a 50p paintbrush

I think everyone else will agree that an uncoated surface is a bad idea

my Cirrus came as raw aluminium and has oxidized to a satin finish pretty much from the get go, and i've not had issues with keeping it fairly tidy since new from 1992:
