Fitting suspension fork to Kona Kilauea

Hi,

A real school-boy question (deserving of being flamed!) - but here goes...

I'd like to put some suspension forks on my 92 Kilauea - hopefully keeping a similar geometry (or even better improving it!) - and would really appreciate advice on which parts I'd need to replace - and even better suggestions of actual parts.

I have a nice old GT Tempest to use as collateral in swaps/PX deals :)

Thank you,

Mike

Well even though the 92 Kilauea was effectively a 93 design, it still wasn't a 'suspension-adjusted' frame, so you really ought to stick to a short-travel fork like a Mag 21.

The discussion can get a bit fraught because there's always somebody who has 90mm RC36 Evos on his and thinks it's great - some people just prefer a much slacker head angle than Joe Murray intended, and if you're one of them, that's up to you.

As to what else you need to change, if you stick to a short-travel fork, it's going to have a threaded steerer, so you need to find one with a steerer just the right length or a little longer - in that case, you could keep the Impact on there.
