Fitting a stem to bars - going round the bend aaagh!

No amount of twatting is going to get a 26.4 bar into what is in all probability a 25.4 stem

OP, please repost your question in the road section where you'll get answers from people who know what they are talking about.
 
i did fit 26.4 cinelli bars into a Shimano "hidden bolt" (Nitto made) stem made for 26.0 .....and i considered myself lucky
 
Put the stem bolts in backwards and slip a coin between the slot. Tightening the bolts will ease open the stem aperture.

Just how exactly do you put bolts in backwards when theres only one direction you can put them in :?

Sorry forget it. I just googled "old GB stem" and realize that method is out.
