first project: 1991 SM 800 reworked into a raw BAdBoY

hello,

my first one.
started out as a work bike this spring after my giant 92 team was stolen after 9 ! years of urban use......
posted this bike a while a go in its workbike form
then inspired by all the craze here i tore the thing apart over xmas .

concept was to build something, urban, contemporary, non period correct in its looks
albeit with period correct 90ies parts......
....soften the superharsh frame up some...
and keep it raw, with a lot of metal shades.....
i still wanted to use the thing and keep the cost in the range of a modern day badboy
so VGC was prefered over NOS wherever possible.

the bike was raw as i bought it , so i had the frame shotpeened for the macbook pro look , came out a lil rough, but i still like it

although it has only been a 6 week project the bike has gone thru various iterations already,
a 517 wheelset had to make place for a more period correct 217,
black syncros parts had to go for titanium stuff,
arround new years i realized i had to get another silver/black/metal colored frame
to make use of everything that i obtained for this bike to not use it in the end ; )

still a few modern parts to loose, but getting there....
new old grips are coming ,
suggestions for a front brake ( ´99 xt 750 atm)
a rear cable hanger ( anybody has a black machine tech?)
and a titanium bottom bracket
are very welcome!

still have to iron out a few kinks here and there
and have the bike store correct a few assembly mistakes caused by my limited bike knowledge
but i am pretty pleased with the result so far.

about 4 weeks into the project i started throwing money at it so i stopped buying stuff for now.....

fork : pepperoni also from 1990 forgot to jot down the serial when it was dissasembled.
wheels: 217 / hope titanium / titanium freewheel from a 91 klein attitude VGC

crank ritchey/ sugino in black/ alu 175 (originally owned by the 1990ies german bontrager distributor ) VGC

Headset Cane creek 110 ( the only modern part to stay, sort of the "renovated in the year of " plaquette on an old building : )
stem: look 110 titanium from 1997 NOS ( could use something shorter, and itflexes like hell..)
handlebar: ibis ancotec TI VGC
seatpost Thomson Titanium VGC ( a lil long at 370mm , open for swaps to a shorter size)

Levers: Paul 2,5 old with titanium screws GC

locked sqewers, new and titanium, didn´t find 90ies antitheft stuff....

got new tires,
1.85 front 1.65 rear
keeping it a true beast.
im afraid the pic doesn´t do the tires cool green justice.
and the sister project going.....a 1992 M1000 in sahara gold,
the "what do i do with parts left ?" frame mentioned above...........
welded december 20th 1991, one year to the day after my SM 800,
numbaz, numbaz.....

You can't go wrong with dales in any form , flouro rave colours ,stripped polished ,scotchbriteded ,matte blacked , left in the oe chipped scratched patinae , so much

love the sand coloured siedewalls on the hutchinsons , will have to find something like that dirtstyle...
