Brian Aherne on a soundstage cobblestone street in a publicity still from the 1936 Irish War of Independence drama-romance, Beloved Enemy. Aherne’s character is loosely based on Irish Republican hero Michael Collins. Merle Oberson plays an English aristocrat with whom Aherne’s Dennis Riordan tumbles in love. The original ending of the United Artists’ film had Aherne die in a gun battle, a new ending had him shot but surviving. And that’s the version that’s survived.

Bob Hope and son Kelly ride a Schwinn World around the Paramount Studio lot. The father-and-son duo are both at work on That Certain Feeling, the 1956 triangular romantic comedy in which the comedy star plays a comic strip artist and Eva Marie Saint his old high school flame, now engaged to another cartoonist, played by George Sanders. Kelly Hope, age 9, has a small role.
