Film and TV stars and their bikes!

In a still from Vittorio De Sica’s 1948 neorealist classic Bicycle Thieves (or The Bicycle Thief, as it was released in the U.S.), Lianella Carell and Lamberto Maggiorani, playing a struggling couple in post-WWII Rome, try out the new bike that’s going to bring Maggiorani’s Antonio loads of work. It's still much vaunted as a film school study of poverty and use of film techniques which were in vogue in the 1950s.

Sadly, the bike is stolen, and doom and despair ensue.

Muriel Angelus rides a bike. LIKES IT TOUGH – Just riding a bicycle isn’t enough exercise in the opinion of Muriel Angelus, blonde Paramount star.

She even takes the bike down to the beach and pedals through the loose sand, which helps keep those lovely legs in trim. Muriel has done four pictures in quick succession, including “Safari” and “Down Went McGinty,” since she arrived in Hollywood.
