In a still from a 1967 publicity photo session to promote Far From the Madding Crowd, Julie Christie models a child’s size penny farthing bicycle– and a very contemporary minidress. Christie’s outfit is a far cry from the Victorian-era costumes she wore in the John Schlesinger-directed adaptation of the Thomas Hardy novel. Alan Bates, Peter Finch and Terence Stamp also starred.
