Fill drilled holes in Swing arm??

Dirt Disciple
As per the title would it be wise/safe to fill the holes left by a chain guide in a swing arm?

The bike in question is a Marin B17.

Will the arm be liable to break given the smallish holes? Will some strength filler etc help??

Please see attached picture, you can see the outlines of the holes.

My plan was to put screws in or No more nails (or both) then cover with vinyl sticker. If this is silly or not needed please advise a noob

Re:

Did you take the guide off?

I would shove the bolts back on with large flat washers.

If you can source them anodised in the right(ish) finish then all the better.

Re:

Ride it off about a 4 foot drop-if it doesn't break or bend, it's probably gonna be alright... :) I'd do what Highlandsflyer recommends and put bolts in the holes...

Thinking about it, some kind of cavity fixing might help make it less prone to spreading.

It looks really deformed, and there are humps in the top line.

The guide was taken off by previous owner and it was then converted to 9 speed.

I will source some bolts and make then nice and tight with some epoxy or similar. And cross my fingers.

Id fill it and the dent, sand sown and paint.

You need to come up with something to stop filler going inside the swing arm.

Would it matter if a bit went inside?

Re:

Filling the holes with auto type body filler isn't going to make it any stronger, just cosmetically nicer. Those holes had bolts in them made of steel, so just replacing them seems like the obvious thing to do...

If you want to give it optimal strength and make it cosmetically nice, bung some steel bolts in with (red?) threadlock, slap some metal filler around the heads then grind & sand everything flush with the arm surface; there'll still be enough of the bolt heads left to hold them in place.

Any chance of a photo without the tape? Were self tapping screws used, or regular bolt (a thread will probably be visible in the metal)?
I'm assuming that the holes don't go through both sides of the swing-arm?
