Thats not what I meant so get off the soapbox and put down the loudhailer. There are people in many areas of mtb who have not heard of retrobike yet do have some interest in old bikes and some still have the odd example. There are a couple of folk from meetup I know who have old kit who just need encouraging to use it. There founding members of old established mtb clubs from BITD I've met through meet up. We are not merging we are spreading the word. Just because rides you've been on are shit does not mean thats the default position for non retrobike events. There are others out there in the world at large who need to herar the word. Recruiting more folk and getting more active participants has got to be a good thing surely !
I'm not on a soapbox and I DON'T HAVE A LOUDHAILER!
If you remember I merely asked....

Does every ride now have to be a joint venture?
Some people who rode mtbs BITD think that we retrobikers are a bunch of saddos. Some maybe wish they were as cool as us! Whatever. The site is free to all. They can join if they want, and then chose to come on rides or not as they see fit. But at least they will then be retrobike members.
The main point is that if every ride is a joint venture with another club, forum, website then it slightly defeats the point of retrobike being a site for lovers of retro. By all means there should be some rides where random friends can come along. But there should also be some rides that are MacRetro, pure and simple.
Since we are having this discussion I'll just say how I see it. I think we have (or should have) 4 rides a year that are staples. Festive Frolics, Summer GT meet, the National (even when it's not) and Baltic Bawbags. These should be rides where
riding retro is strongly encouraged and the route is chosen to suit, and these should be for retrobike members.
Other rides such as Clubby Trails, Velo Trails, Zig-Zag Trails, like a scene from deliverance Fife Trails, epics, races (puffer, 10UTB) etc etc can be open to anyone riding anything.
And I would like to see a Retro Only meet become a staple as well.
That way you can spread as much word as you like. We all have a decent opportunity to get the retro out on rides and routes that will not kill us or the bikes, and enjoy the banter at other times with bikes that work properly. Everyone is a winner!
And on that note I hope to be at GT riding mostly blue routes on an appropriately retro steed on 28th December.
btw, Col. Go for the 80's bike.
