We all know about how many fake £1 coins are knocking about or i hope you do

I decided to check my small pile of £1 coins and was shocked to find i have three of the buggers !!

The lines on the edges of mine look as if someone had used a fine file to make the lines.

The bank will take them off you and give you a 'real' one but if you hand them into the Police they will not give you anything back.

So start checking your coins

IR :!:

When i worked in a school in Tower hamlets about 30 - 35% of them were fake (an awful lot of dinner money!)

Just use them, the Bof E know about them but I understand won't withdraw them as our economy is flakey enough as it is as there is reckoned to be a few million quids worth in circulation.

But is any of it worth anything, the gold has gone, so what is our coinage secured on and is it anything other than tokens ?

Anyone tried running a magnet over their copper coinage, copper should not stick to magnets, but copper coinage is being withdrawn, because copper is escalating in value and what we are getting in their place is low grade steel with a copper coating so thin the things rust.

i stopped checking a long time ago, so long as its not a blatant fake i'll just use it as currency.
