Faccioli - date and groupset advice

Hello,

I recently bought my first retro bike to build up over the winter for a project and to have somthing to look forward to ride next summer.

I am looking for some advice for the frame date as i would like to source parts from that period of time. I am pretty sure it is early 80's there is hardly any info on the manufacturer i tried sites like velobase but it did not come up with any results.

The bike has some neat internal cabling which goes through the downtube into the BB and through the chainstay which i havent seen on a vintage bicycle before.

Due to it being an italian made frame i am thinking of going with italian parts.

I have added a few photos below.

The aero position of the levers would suggest to me to mid/late 80s. I'm sure though that someone more expert will be along shortly

Re:

Campagnolo Nuovo Record without a doubt as those levers are record

Re:

Cheers Nobby,

Guess i will have to source Nuovo Record parts.

Also does anyone have suggestions for good clincher rims to go with nuovo record hubs as i am thinking of getting a good local wheelbuilder to make me some wheels.

Re:

You'll probably struggle to find any mid-80s clincher rims in good condition, so I'd be inclined to go for something a bit more modern.

Ambrosio Excellence with the stickers peeled off look really classy, they are still made so easy enough to source.

Campagnolo Omega 19 are available new old stock on eBay, they're from the mid 90s but have that nice dark anodised look so will go with a mid 80s frame.

The H Plus Son TB14 is a nice rim, but it might not be to your taste - it's a bit wide so might not look quite right.

Personally I'd steer clear of second-hand rims as it's difficult to spot small dents and if they're not completely straight they don't make a good wheel.

I've used all of the above rims - the Omegas ride beautifully, but the anodising wears off with braking so they start to look scruffy. The Ambrosios also ride well, but will keep looking fresh.

Cheers for the advice, i think i will go with Ambrosio Excellence, With full Nuovo Record groupset and Silver stem finished with white tape and saddle :D

I've got some 80s clincher wheels in the For sale section. They are Campag hubs on campag Ypsilon aero profile rims. The hubs are possibly chorus or maybe Athena

Mavic GP4 are good rims if you can get hold of them & in keeping with the frame

Re:

I also have a spare set of campag record on Mavis MA2 silver rims if you are interested
