Well, my enforced weed breaking is going quite well though the effects of withdrawal are still evident.Tailing off a bit so we're getting there :?

Next thing on my agenda to to give up tobacco.I think this will probably be the hardest thing i do but do i must.
Ive tried in the past many methods from hypnotherapy to the strong drugs you can get only on prescription and to be honest ive failed each time.
Perhaps a better idea would be to continue taking in nicotine but remove all the really harmful ingredients the tobacco companies add to make the nicotine get into your bloodstream quicker.
Im guessing that the addiction isnt just the nicotine itself but also the other harmful ingredients, but until i try it i dont know.
The only option i see other than patches is the E-cigarette.

There is a shed load of good and bad reviews over these things but the con argument is so dumb its hardly worth talking about.Seems the anti mob talk about risks and are against it as they dont know the long term affects so wont give it fair opinion :? :)
Personally i find that argument pretty stupid in that they are more than happy to die from real fags than from E-Ciggies.

Has anyone here ever tried this method of weaning themselves off ?
Im not going for it as yet, thought id try to find out a little more to allow me to make a more informed choice.

A good friend has gone from smoking 25-30 a day to using one of those electronic cigarettes, has worked for him but he says you still need to want to give up and have alot of willpower. He's 4 months in and is finally feeling the benefits. He had tried patches, but they didn't work for him.

It's the nicotine. It's addictive qualitys are quite similar to heroin, and your subconscious will try every trick in the book to convince your conscious mind to give it some. I'd try the gum. They've made great strides in the taste lately, so it's not like you're chewing on bits of the chamois of Eddy Merckx's old cycling shorts, but not enough to really like it (so you'll eventually stop that, too - although I do have a customer that's been chewing it for 5 years now). The advantage over the new sprays and strip/lozenges is that it occupies your mind doing it (you have to chew the gum according to the directions - stick it in your mouth and chew continuously, and you'll get the spins and kiss the carpet). Good luck.

ps: hash+tobacco spliffs = relapse. Consider yourself warned.

Giving up Tobacco is far harder than Marajuana, sorry!!

You will get a massive rush of craving, almost like a panic attack at times. They last a very short period. In my case less than a minute at a time. You take each one at a time.

I've been off recreational drugs now for 18 years inc one or two naughty ones!

I've been off cigs for 11 + years.

I've been off booze for 8 years.

If I can do it...

Just remember there's a reason It's called dope. Good luck with the fags too mate.

al. :D

A mate of mine has been using these cyber cigs to help him quit, and if anything they have made him worse, he is as addicted to the nicotine in them as he was to smoking, he couldnt get some the other week and ended up having to buy a pack of cigs, then he found he wasnt getting as much nicotine as he had been used to on the cyber cigs, so had to smoke more as a result, he is now trying to quit using nothing to aid him!

In my experience this is the only way you will quit, because you want to, so you stop, and before anyone says it i smoked for sixteen years, i was smoking 20+ a day when i quit, december 2009 and im still quit now, if you need assistance then i personally think your heart isnt in it and youre only trying to show willing, will power is the only way, if YOU want to quit, then YOU will do it, and if YOU really want to, then you will!

Dont get me wrong, it is really hard to quit, and ill never say it isnt, just all these patches and cyber cigs are a load of rubbish imo, like i say, if you really want to stop, then you will!

I am in week four now of quitting smoking and I can tell you, it's not been fun, but much better this time I made the right choice with the quitting aid.

Electronic cigarette, have one of them around somewhere and all they do is perpetuate the problem, one still goes outside with the smokers and ends up smoking as a lot of pubs do not allow electronic cigs to be used indoors.

But from my perspective, the only way to give it up, is change the habits around it, because you will be surprised how much of it is habit.

Tried the patches several times, tried the gum and tried the inhaler, all failed, so am now on Champix and so far that has worked, but if it fails there is one left ; Zyban, but I understand that one can be quite nasty.

You see stopping smoking is getting rid of nicotine, so to me it doesn't
make any sense to be using replacement products, whilst not smoking one is still getting the nicotine hit which can lead back to smoking and it has too many times for me.

Now this time I am not being hard on myself, if I smoke whilst trying to give up, it is not failure, it is a peccadillo that is all and by that I continue trying to quit otherwise the stress is too much for me and when I get the black dog I just give up and have done so before.

I have smoked a few since the quit day, but have found because I am allowing myself to smoke if I want to, I am not smoking and the gaps between having a sly one are getting longer, so maybe this time.

Oh and something else I have found, is find something to fixate on as a reason for stopping and mine is because I hate the government, that's less money they are getting out of me, forked tongued B**tards

Alcohol next !

Its not the nicotine that is bad for you its the tar and the 'other' ingredients.Has to be better than normal ciggies, even if you are taking in more nicotine

[Just like to add at this point congrats to all those who have managed it  ]

Maybe you failed in the past because you didn't really want to stop.
I wouldn't be so quick to rule out the things that never worked before.

For example if you did hypnotherapy but failed because there's tobacco in joints and got pulled back in, then there's no reason not to use it again now you no longer have that pull.

Use the success in one goal to achive the next, think "if I can do X then Y should be easy"

I read a book and listened to a CD and went from 20 a day to nil overnight, only slight cravings and not often, after a week I knew there was no going back.

Good luck.

I failed at the hypnotherapy because of my 'above average' iq[:) not telling] As the process was ongoing i could see the method behind it and because of that understanding i couldnt accept it.
It operates on people replacing the thought of wishing to smoke with something that disgusts you.Being a butcher and having worked[as part of later training as a meat inspector]in the abattoir i can assure you nothing disgusts me lol I more view these 'experiences' as interesting

This isnt about me but more about others experiences and how they got on with nicotine replacement :?

anyone esle try an E fag and how did you get on with it.

I used to sell them, do they work? i don't honestly know...some people swore by them others said they didn't do anything for them.

That said i do have a wholesaler connection if anyone is interested in getting them cheaper.
