Eight years apart...

Tomorrow I am going to look at a bike I sold some eight years ago, that has come up for sale. I have been trying to find some pics of it, the only one I can find is hosted on pinkbike. A friend of mine took it, at the time I didn't even have a home computer, let alone a digital camera.



I had the bike for just over two years, and took really good care of it. I sold the frame and fork, as well as the wheels, but kept most of the gucci parts. They have been stored in the loft ever since.

I know both of the owners the bike has had since then, and the bike is now well used. The last time I saw it was about a year ago, and it was looking pretty sorry for itself.

Not entirely sure if I want it back, but I am kinda looking forward to seeing it again.

Yeah, they are light, pretty stiff too laterally from memory. I suspect it will feel wooly compared to modern stuff tho.

I have the bike in my possession now, and although the frame is pretty tidy, the forks are knackered.







Amazingly the forks still work, they are very smooth, but the coating is wearing pretty badly on the uppers.

I have been searching for all of the nice parts that I kept from the bike, and I was worried the bar-ends had been lost, luckily they are still on the bike. The only part I can't put my hands on is the XTR front mech, I'm pretty sure I transferred it to my Merlin and it expired shortly afterwards. There is a Deore front mech on there atm, and there is a XT one kicking around in the spares box, so I should be able to get her up together pretty easily.

Cheers. I was hoping to make a start on this today, but the weather was crap and I didn't want to get cold(er). I was however donated a pair of Michelin tyres for it by the spanner monkey in the lbs yesterday. I never ran michelins on the xc bikes bitd, but it kinda makes sense now to run them as they were an official supplier to the factory team. They are old, but they are in very good condition and should set the bike off perfectly.

This is a nice story.
From memory those SIDs were like a wet noodle, but the frame itself should be lively enough.


I regret selling my old Fat Chance Buckshaver. I would buy it back if it were for sale.
