Edjumicate me - disks from 1998

I'm going to build some wheels for my 1998 1x1, and I'm going to use a set of Sun Ringle Fat Albert rims from that period.

They have no braking surface, so my options are disks or drum brakes.

The disk revolution passed me by initially. I ignored them because I was happy with drums or V-brakes - perfectly good for the dry conditions where I rode in Oz. Hence I am ignorant of the brakes from that period.

My 1x1 has no brake mounts, but I vaguely remember disks having adapters around that time.

What are my possibilities?

There'll be someone far more knowledgable along shortly I'm sure but the adaptor you're looking for will be the A2Z one, still freely available but only really suitable for alloy frames. Brakewise......Hope are all i remember really, c2's?

Shimano had disc brakes at that time as did Magura, Giant etc.
There are several adaptors other than the A2Z type, the Woodsman DISCO type are good if money no object, several other cheaper versions that use a torque arm exist such as by Onza.There are even cheaper steel pressed items currently on sale on ebay with a bit of searching that can be adapted for both frame and fork.

I've actually got a few adapters, but I was thinking more along the lines of the Hope where the calliper bears against the seat stay. Tidier.

It was the early cable hopes that had adapters of that style, 91-94. Performance is ok, much better than most canti's, not as good as some V's, 4 finger levers are definitely a benefit for them. although they last ages pads are becoming hard to come by now though.

The rear one on ebay just now is vastly overpriced. (It's the one I'm after, I'm hoping he'll drop his price eventually)

The later hydraulic hope calipers didn't put pressure on the stays and relied on a rod to the v-brake boss to spread the load.
