:shock: That's crazy, the army doesn't carry half of that kit!
All I need is my iPhone, money and I carry these everywhere unless I'm off to the pub...use the spyderco ladybug daily, my deer antler is a good luck charm that keeps me safe, black fob gets me into depot, keys into house and squirt lube fob is handy if I need a spare link

Ladybugs lock which make them illegal for edc, I would have a look at the Spyderco slipit range like the grasshopper

A pocket knife is really useful for me, I use it every single day at work, working outdoors its used for trimming things, getting things out my hands, bursting blisters, cleaning crap out my nails, all sorts!
Might invest in a new one.

Knives, I used to be into my knives and even used to make custom ceremonial knives, but now what with the knee jerk laws we have and fascist plod( some of them are), I just can't be bothered anymore, it is not worth the hassle as I am one of those people I am told just looks guilty.
Anyway, my armoury consists of these days, my straight razors for shaving, a leatherman juice xe6 that was found too weedy for Afghanistan and it is weedy, so general purpose, Opinel lock knife in the tool box, an antique Mora bi metal fixed blade and a Devon pattern ( Brades) billhook for when one just needs a little less finesse when it comes to taking something apart.
The ceremonial knives, Athames, I used to sell them for just shy of 500, but they were made to order and am still getting inquiries for them, but am stuffed at the moment, lost my mojo. Oh and I had an inquiry for six Ottoman kilij type swords, but them being over two feet in length are banned in the UK now, as the kilijs designs and patterns I have are all around 48 inches long. So Brits that want these things now have to buy from abroad and cut the British craftsman out of the equation.

Such an urban survival kit like in that video is just ridiculous.
This guy seems to think that the world will end if he can't connect to the internet or listen to his iPod.
As for survivalists and their "bug out bags", I personally wouldn't call it paranoia, 1duck. I like to think of it as "planning for worst-case scenarios".
Any natural disaster (a big earthquake for example) can plunge an entire region into chaos. Nevermind a viral outbreak, a war or a complete collapse of the economy.
All of these scenarios can happen (let's hope they never do), and your Visa card or smartphone won't help much in those circumstances. Even a car can be useless.
I too have a big backpack and fresh gear on standby. If necessary, I just need to change my gear, grab that bag and I'm off.
Depending on what happens, I have several routes worked out to remote areas in different countries, all of them more than a thousand miles from here.
I'm actually planning to take my preparedness to the next level by having a bike modified to haul lots of gear in absolute silence and without requiring maintenance (strong components, full tyres, etc).
That would turn a 60-day hike without food or water into a 10-day ride with plenty of both.
Does that mean I'm paranoid? I personally don't think so. I enjoy life just as much as the next guy and can live care-free.
The only difference between me and that next guy is that I have a bug out bag on standby, which gives me an advantage in the unlikely scenario that everything goes t*ts up.
If I need it, it's there. If I never need it, so much the better.
Oh, and don't worry about being on an island. You can always get off it by boat, and if that fails you can use the channel tunnel.
If there's ever a really big disaster, one of the first things they'll do is shut down the Eurostar trains. So you should be safe there on foot or on the bike.
