Since when did paypal start charging fees for a seller receiving money for items sold on Ebay?
I have sold some shoes on t'bay for £160. I have just recieved the money, less £6 odd for fees . Are these Ebay fees or paypal? It doesn't say.
The last time I sold anything on Ebay, I was invoiced for the final value fees a couple of weeks later....
:?

paypal have to charge somebody for using it's system and as it's not a gift, the receiver always pays. Always has as far as I've used it (a few years)

ebay fees are separate.

But £6 means it's an expensive item ? ~£170 from the calcs site

Maybe....
... but I'm not appy! :x

grumbl brumble...

Yup its the evil money grabbing capitalists at it again
Ebay own paypal
ebay take their listing and final valuation fees
paypal takes a fee
Paypal base their fee on the total amount that includes the postage you've paid
Yup they take a cut from the postage too ;) Nothing is too little for these type of companies.

Did someone say monopoly ? or was it cartel

Ebay fees do make it difficult to buy and sell through ebay, thats why sites like this are invaluble when it comes to trading old parts.

pain

Yes for sure its a pain, but you use the service and you pay a fee. Its always been that way and the fee's are always clear and black and white.
Generally its 10% for ebay and 4% for paypal unless its a gift or refund.
I dont like it either when I sell something and have x amount only to then lose a few quid on fee's, but thats the cost of doing it so I usually pay my ebay fee's straight away and paypal deduct it before you get it anyway. That way whats left is mine.
So much whinging on this site about ebay and paypal, people dont like it, they shouldnt use it ;)

agreed, if i don't want to pay the fees, i use sites like this. simples. although i do wonder when they may change and start charging for the gift option.....

i dont like the fees but at the end of the day it is a good service.

years ago you would be waiting weeks to shift stuff just selling to a local market.

now with a sensible start bid and a decent description you can sell things in a few days to an international market.

i wish there was a cheaper alternative though

Paypal will investigate if you recieve a lot of payments via "gifts" as they like their slice of the pie. I know of one trader who is being investigated for trying to dodge the paypal fees through gifts.

they did this some time ago if I remember?

There was then a flurry of sellers adverts on ebay saying that if paying by paypal you must ad 4% extra to the purchase price which ebay then started to remove the adverts saying basically the seller must swallow the cost.

Add to that ebays fee's and around 10% final sale fee, I now tend to use ebay as advertising and try and sell off auction

as to personal "gifts" not had any problems so far
